    WHY ATTEND

In light of the global pandemic, the need for trusted, authoritative voices that can inform populations of new and existing risks has never been more apparent. However, there is often a discrepancy between people’s perception of risk, and the actual likelihood of them experiencing those dangers. If the world is to become a safer place, communities, businesses, NGOs, regulators, academics and policy makers need to understand better how safe people feel, how they perceive risk and the risks they experience.

Join us to announce and debate the results of the first World Risk Poll. The poll is based on 150,000 interviews in 142 countries and is the largest study of the risks the world fears and faces. This includes insights from countries where little or no official data exists, yet where risks and injuries reported in the poll are often high. Does being safer make people feel safer? How do regions differ in the risks people prioritise? Are men and women likely to experience safety interventions differently? How can policies and programmes be developed using insights from the World Risk Poll?

How can we empower people with the safety information they need to reduce their risk of harm in the workplace, from climate events and from food? The results of the poll will be followed by analysis from expert speakers who will use the poll’s findings to inform future actions that make the world safer. The discussion will focus on three key areas within the study: safety and work, food safety, and risk empowerment.
